Hey there Route 32 followers! It is hard to believe we are almost half way through 2018. Even as fast as the year is going by, we have accomplished so much.
I really want to start this article in the last half of 2017. Last August, Taylor and I attended and both graduated from the Repperts School of Auctioneering located at Christy’s of Indiana. The class schedule was 13 hours each day for 13 days straight. We immersed in every faucet of auctioneering that the school could possibly teach us; from bid calling, insurance, taxes, real estate, to many types of auctions. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. I want to give a big shout out to the entire Christy’s family. They truly are the best!
We graduated, so what’s next? We began the process of building our new auction family. This was full of many ups and downs. If you’ve ever been through the hiring process you know what I mean! At first, it seemed like we were hitting one road block after another, but as with life road blocks are not stopping points but are opportunities to learn, grow and to use it to come out better.
Our first family member to join the Route 32 team was Joe Canchola. Route 32 was and is very fortunate to have Joe come join us. He brings a wealth of knowledge, time and respect in “our line of work.” Joe joined a team of already great foundation. It includes my daughter (Megan), which takes care of all our book keeping (and keeping her dad in line). Taylor takes care of more than I could possibly begin to tell you. Steve (Steve-O) has taken over our restoration business and assists on the auction side whenever needed. And lastly, (but never least) is my wife (Jill) who loves, supports and guides us all.
If you know me at all you know I don’t let the grass grow under my feet, or at least get too tall. We prepared the best we know how and scheduled for our first auction, which was on November 25, Thanksgiving weekend. We had the Christy’s auction team come alongside us through the entire process (again so thankful for their willingness to help us succeed).
After our first auction, we were already well on our way preparing for the next one. As with any business you have to be the best you can be not only in the now but preparing and planning one, two, and three steps ahead! As we planned out our 2018 schedule, we realized we had a lot of work ahead of us so we tightened up our boot straps and started taking steps forward. We hit the road, knocking on doors, shaking hands, making phone calls, and blasting social media. You name it, we did and are continuing to do it. Through all this we have worked with several people and we were fortunate to find the latest additions to the Route 32 family, Chris Bihlmaier and Addy Robinson. Addy will be graduating soon with a Applied Science Degree in Graphic Arts. With her credentials and creativeness, she will be assisting us with social media, catalog and promotion design plus so much more. Chris comes to us sharing his photography and editing skills along with many other facets to his credit. Chris along with Addy fulfill an integral part of the Route 32 auction needs and we are so thankful for both of them.
One thing that happened much quicker than we anticipated was being fortunate to purchase our new auction house. We really hadn’t planned on doing this until at least 2019, but we were presented an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. A facility just down the road from our showroom and a perfect setup for our future needs became available. This building was originally an Elks Lodge (and when you visit you will still find the Elk head mounted on the wall). It is 10,000 square feet situated on 15 acres, so plenty of room to grow. Our remodel and moving process is just about complete. We are so excited to have our first auction at our new facility on June 9th. The day before (Friday, June 8), we will be hosting our inaugural on-site swap meet. You won’t want to miss this 2-day event as we have a great time planned for everyone. Check out all the details on our website in the events section or give us a call.
As you have read, we are going full steam ahead! With all this going on, we are already beginning our catalog for the Iowa Gas Auction. We will be hosting a Thursday, August 2 auction in the evening and then a full day on Friday, August 3. As with all our auctions you won’t want to miss it. To finish out the 2018 year, we will be hosting a least 2 more auction events at our auction house which will be in September and the other on Thanksgiving weekend. But you never know, we may throw another one in just for fun!
We want to thank everyone that has supported us. We can never say thank you enough! Keep your eyes open for many more announcements and videos about what’s going on in the world of Route 32 Auctions.
